The Soul Series – The Soul of Disappointments

Hello, everyone. 🙂

Today, I am going to give you something from The Soul Series by Father Loreto Jaque and this time it is about the Soul of Disappointments. If there is one thing that I have learned lately, that is to let go of my expectations of life so I won’t be so disappointed when things don’t come my way.

Without further ado, let me give you Father Jaque and his wonderful thoughts about disappointments and learning to embrace them in  a way that we will see them as something positive instead of negative.

The first part is my translation while the second is the original copy that I got from the Facebook Group page of Father Jaque named Art Heals. Enjoy reading and learning. 🙂

In Life, Disappointments Happen by Harvey Enrile and Katrina Pacheco

(translation)

Since we first started learning about things, we were already promised by our parents that life is just okay. In movies, we see happy endings. In fairy tales, the prince and the princess always end up with each other. Even in the sermons of different religions, the usual pretext is that there is always heaven, so in the meantime, it is alright to go through some sufferings.

Forgive me, but for me, all these promises are pure seductions. This is why there are many of us now who can’t accept failure, who can’t handle problems. For them, the solution is to turn to vices or to destroy their lives.

One of the things that we need to accept about life is we need to give up our expectations and allow ourselves to be disappointed.

The soul of disappointments is that it inspires us to give up our ambitions. With disappointments, we fall down, down and down, until we touch the ground, until we relate with the basic sanity of the earth. We become the lowest of the low, the smallest of the small, a grain of sand, perfectly simple, no expectations.

If we are a grain of sand, we are a speck in the Universe. This means all the space of the universe is ours. The rest of the universe is ours because we obstruct nothing, we overcrowd nothing and we possess nothing. There is only tremendous openness. You are the emperor of the universe because you are a grain of salt.

Isn’t this what Saint Paul also taught us? In our weakness, we become strong.

Pasayloa, peru para nako, all these promises are pure seductions.

Usa ka butang nga angayng dawaton nga sa kinabuhi, we need to give up our expectations and allow ourselves to be disappointed.

Dili ba mao man pod kini ang gitudlo ni San Pablo? In our weakness, we become strong.
